11:33 am - best use of strings in a pop song
When I have concidered "what is the best use of strings in a pop song", some immediate responses have come to mind:

1. Sam Cooke - A change is gonna come. Because it really sets the mood of the song.

2. Fire Engines - Candyskin. Story goes that the Fire Engines wanted a finishing touch to their song and simply ran downtown and rented a string quartet. The end result is awesome.

3. Paddy McAloon - I Trawl the Megahertz. The track is basically spoken fiction, but the strings make it seem not so. It's difficult to explain, but it's really great.

I wrote this post so that I would remember to add this song to the mental short list:

4. Isaac Hayes - Walk on By. OK, so it's another example where the biggest impact of the strings is in the beginning of the song, which isn't really that exciting structure wise. But the strings are really beautiful. I'm telling you. I like to listen to the song up until the fuzz guitar and then just rewind.

1:49 pm - the obama apple
Obama is the new Apple of America! I feel good about this. He seems collected and comparably competent. Criticism against Bush and America has been hailing for eight years now, it'll be interesting to see if the Obama Apple manages to change the global political climate.

12:10 am - b/w
You can very easily take a picture in color and then simply convert it into b/w if you so wish. That's what most people on the Internet will recommend. However, most people on the Internet are wrong, because setting out to take pictures in b/w from the start is something different altogether. You start to see the pictures in a different light.

So that's what I'm doing now. I think I'll take b/w pictures only for a while and see where I land.

9:24 am - uh
Kind of slipped away from LiveJournal for a while. I'm here though. I just wanted to make sure that every post counts, but then I didn't really have that much to say so it was kind of static. I continue to be busy at "Schule", though I'm waiting to hear from a job that I applied for.

I suppose that my next project should be: make myself interesting. In a way that doesn't require money or dedicated time, because that can make everybody interesting. I mean interesting as if I'm eminating an interest glow, that kind of interesting.

5:30 am - wetter than a rock on the ocean floor
Tonight I was caught in the rain during my delivery service. The rain poured down on me for an hour straight. As a grown up, this is something I haven't experienced in a long time. Actually, I don't remember when that last time was. These days we usually take the car where we go, or I spend all day indoors or I have some way in which I can escape it or prepare for it. Tonight though, was a surprise attack which I couldn't get around.

It's interesting when it rains this much. It's like your psychological reaction to pouring rain goes through different stages; first you try to avoid it as much as possible and you still harbor hope that the rain might just be temporary. After a while, you resign to the weather powers that be and simply allow yourself to become more wet. You reach the point where you're so wet that it doesn't really make much of a difference anymore, aside from the possibility that the soles of your shoes might get a bit mushier.

Is it just me or are "hate it or love it"-sentiments typically untrue?
